Hillary: Garnishment for Healthcare

Hillary Clinton: Impeach Resident Evil?
impeachhillaryinet.jpgHillary Clinton has flown perhaps the largest trial balloon of her electoral career. Ms. Clinton recently stated that she was “willing to have workers’ wages garnisheed if they refuse to buy health insurance to achieve coverage for all Americans”.Ms. Clinton had not been forthcoming with the enforcement measures she recommends, but when pressed during a recent television interview, she stated: “I think there are a number of mechanisms” that are possible, including “going after people’s wages, automatic enrollment.” On the surface, the intent of the plan sounds so good and upfront that a child could understand and appreciate it. Ms. Clinton’s plan “covers every American – finally addressing the needs of the 47 million uninsured and the tens of millions of workers with coverage who fear they could be one pink slip away from losing their health coverage – with no overall increase in health spending or taxes. For those with health insurance, the plan builds on the current system to give businesses and their employees greater choice of health plans – including keeping the one they have – while lowering cost and improving quality.” The problem is that, like the 911 Bush plan for invading Iraq, the plan addresses the healthcare of the nation from the standpoint of fear. Fear always makes a plan sound a lot better, especially when the right words are used. Ms. Clinton promises “greater choice” while “lowering costs and improving quality”. Ms. Clinton’s wonderous plan is going to control around 10 per cent of the total economy with government controls in one huge move. Any national health management directive would meticulously govern virtually every aspect of the delivery and the financing of health care services for American citizens. Ms. Clinton is “suggesting” mandatory financing of her directive through employers, paychecks and other means necessary to insure complete national coverage. The government will be in charge of tracking you down to get your share of the money.

On the surface, Ms. Clinton’s plan is goodness and light. On the technical side, hundreds of pages of tightly written paragraphs will detail sweeping government control of the health insurance industry along with precise benefits that must be guaranteed, insurance requirements for companies and persons, a national quality management program to oversee the quality, medical education and the training of physicians. The plan must manage the creation of information systems, public health initiatives, even the foundation of federal loans as well as guaranty and solvency funding. The plan will manage new assessments and taxes, rural health programs, long-term care, malpractice and antitrust reform as well as penalties to fight abuse and fraud. The plan must also interface with the Medicare program, prescription drug program and include coverage of state and local government workers, tax subsidies: and the list goes on. Oh…the plan must secure the private information of all Americans. All these items and more are required for a complete overhaul of the current U.S. medical system. The promise is that the plan will save money because every aspect has been thought through by experts.

Last time Bill Clinton suggested a national health plan on October 28, 1993, the American people were told that 40% of all Americans would have a cost increase from the beginning. I understand that Ms. Clinton is not necessarily endorsing the same plan. Keep in mind that the politics of the situation have been presented in very similar ways. On the surface, the plan is good for the country. Even the poor can afford the plan. Behind the scenes, the motivation is fear: fear of loss and lack of coverage. Now Ms. Clinton proposes to give her perfect health care plan teeth. She is open to mandatory access to paychecks, in essence the entire productive economy of the entire country. The invasion would likely go beyond this measure as the government would seek to claim money for all unemployed and retired Americans, many without paychecks or additional sources of income. The financial reach of the health program would be draconian in scope, in essence violating civil rights: even the right to choose for every American. The cat is out of the bag. Hillary is prepared to regulate the economy and deduct the cost directly from your income any way that the government is able. The plan quickly becomes something other than a benefit. The plan is actually another method of control and power for government: a resident evil. The disregard for Americans is heinous and alarming, while on the surface the intent of the plan resides in goodness and light.

How are we sure the plan will take care of us anyway? We all know how well social security is doing, who is to say health care wont become the same thing?
