3 Days: An Extremist Call to Action?
The FBI is warning police across the country about a call to dethrone U.S. state governors by a group that identifies itself as the Guardians of the Free Republics. Fears are that the group’s call could provoke national or state violence by others.
This finding comes from a letter originating from this anti-government group, which on its web site says that it wants to “restore America” by peacefully dismantling parts of the government. The letters threaten that governors must resign within 3 days.
So far, 30 governors have received letters saying if they don’t leave office within three days, they will be removed. Governor Phil Bredesen is among the governors alerted by the letters. According to the FBI, the letters come at a time of heightened attention to extremist groups after the arrest of nine militia members last weekend accused of plotting violence. The FBI associates the letter with “sovereign citizens” that see themselves as revolutionaries. Many believe they are their own country, free from all the duties of a U.S. citizen.
Law enforcement in most locations claim to be taking measures “just in case.” The implication is that if governors don’t step down, violent measures would be taken.
